MINNEAPOLIS – Minnesota guard Deja Winters became the first Gopher women's basketball player since 2019 to be picked up by a WNBA franchise when the Las Vegas Aces announced the signing of the Cleveland, Ohio, native after the conclusion of the WNBA draft on Monday night.

A product of Richmond Heights High School, Winters spent her final collegiate season with the Maroon and Gold after stops at Seton Hall and North Carolina A&T. Winters quickly made an impact on the Golden Gophers, and eventually was named All-Big Ten as a part of the Honorable Mention team by the members of the media that cover the Big Ten.

In her lone season in the Maroon and Gold Winters proved to be one of the Big Ten's most impactful graduate transfers. While averaging 11.2 points per game Winters posted a career-best 41.6 percent from three and completed her five-year collegiate career with a 3-point shooting percentage of 35.1. Winters made 246 career threes during her career and was also a factor on the defensive end with an average of 1.5 steals per game and 1.0 blocks per game. She connected on a career high 74 threes during the 2021-22 season in Minneapolis and posted a career high 30 points in Minnesota's second matchup with eventual Big Ten Champion Iowa on Feb. 9, making a season-high five threes while connecting on 11 shots.

Winters becomes the first player since Kenisha Bell in 2019 to participate in a WNBA training camp. Currently the Golden Gophers have two alums in the WNBA in Rachel Banham (Minnesota Lynx) and Amanda Zahui B. (Los Angeles Sparks).
