Battle Named 2022 Minnesota Miss Basketball

MINNEAPOLIS -- University of Minnesota women's basketball signee Amaya Battle was named the state of Minnesota's Miss Basketball, announced by the Minnesota Girls Basketball Coaches Association on Saturday. The honor is awarded to the top senior girls' basketball player. Battle, who is a part of Minnesota's top 10 nationally ranked recruiting class, will join the program this summer.
Battle capped off an incredible senior campaign last month when she guided Hopkins High School to a 4A state title at Williams Arena. An all-tournament team selection, the Royals won the state championship over St. Michael Albertville. This year Battle guided Hopkins to a 28-1 record, a conference championship with an undefeated record and helped her team avenge their 2021 state championship game loss.
Incoming signees Mallory Heyer (Chaska) and Mara Braun (Wayzata) were also finalists for the award. The trio, along with Eden Prairie's Nia Holloway, will come to Minneapolis as the highest ranked recruiting class in Gopher basketball history next season, according to ESPN.
