The redshirt senior has one season of eligibility left
MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota volleyball program has officially announced the addition of Miranda Wucherer (Setter; Brookfield, Wis.), a graduate transfer from Northern Kentucky University. She will have one season of collegiate eligibility remaining in 2022.
The older sister of Gophers freshman outside Mckenna Wucherer, Miranda is thrilled about getting the chance to use her last season of eligibility competing alongside her youngest sibling.
"I chose Minnesota because of the mix of being able to finish my eligibility playing at the highest level and getting my master's degree from an amazing university," Wucherer said. "Additionally, getting the chance to play with my sister for the first time and be mentored by an amazing coaching staff was an opportunity I couldn't pass up."
During her time at Northern Kentucky, she played in 102 matches (389 sets) and averaged 1.15 kills and 5.77 assists per set. Wucherer made the All-Horizon League First Team as a junior in 2020-21 after ranking fifth in the nation with two triple doubles; including a 16-kill, 28-assist,13-dig performance versus Cleveland State. Defensively, she averaged nearly 2.5 digs and 0.4 blocks per set during her career.
The graduate transfer will be added to a Minnesota setter position that features juniors Melani Shaffmaster and Elise McGhie and incoming freshman Chloe Ng.
"Miranda has had a phenomenal collegiate career so far, and we're extremely excited that she's chosen to play her final year at Minnesota. She's a wonderful addition to our program," said head coach Hugh McCutcheon.
Wucherer led the Norse to the NCAA Tournament in 2019, the program's first-ever NCAA appearance since it transitioned to Division I in 2016. A three-time Academic All-Horizon honoree, she achieved a 4.0 GPA as a double major in finance and sports business & event management.
For the 2022 season, Minnesota returns eight athletes who started matches in last season's run to the NCAA Regional Final. The 'U' finished No. 7 in the final AVCA Poll, its seventh straight top-10 finish nationally.
