Rachel Hanford earns All-Big Ten selection, Emilee Duong secures Sportsmanship Award
On Thursday, the Big Ten Conference released their end of year award selections. In addition to Athlete of the Year, Freshmen of the Year, and Coach of the Year, they released the All-Big Ten team and Sportsmanship award winners. The latter two awards featured Golden Gophers. Rachel Hanford earned unanimous All-Big Ten Selection, as Emilee Duong secured a Sportsmanship Award.
Rachel Hanford has been named an All-Big Ten selection in both of her years at Minnesota. Each has been done so unanimously, as she was one of four players to claim that distinction this year.
Hanford claimed 20 victories over the course of the season, 11 coming in dual matches. She posted a winning record at No. 1, as she earned 10 singles wins at the top position. Across pairings, she posted 22 doubles wins, bringing her total to 42 victories on the year.
Emilee Duong came to Minnesota this year as a graduate transfer. Her instant impact and leadership led to her being named a co-captain alongside Rachel Hanford.
Duong posted 20 singles wins, 13 coming in dual matches. She earned 12 of those 13 victories at the No. 2 position, the final win coming at No. 1. In playing across doubles partners, Duong won 23 matches, primarily at the top spot.
Each captain played a pivotal role in Minnesota reaching their highest win total since 2003. Rachel Hanford is the second back to back All-Big Ten recipient under Coach Catrina Thompson.
