Leavitt Earns B1G Double; Named Pitcher and Freshman of the Week

ROSEMONT, Ill. - Minnesota freshman Emily Leavitt's impressive final week of the regular season earned a rare double as she was named Big Ten Conference Pitcher and Freshman of the Week it was announced Monday.
Leavitt was dominant in the circle during a challenging stretch and posted a 3-0 record with a minuscule 0.70 earned run average appearing in all five outings of a 4-1 week. She helped the Gophers claim a doubleheader sweep of Wisconsin before taking the first two games of a weekend series against B1G champion and No. 6 ranked Northwestern.
The Chino, Calif, native struck out 22 batters in 20.0 innings of work for the week and set a career best by fanning 10 in a complete game win over the Badgers Wednesday securing the sweep. She followed that effort by recording a three-hit shutout of the nationally-ranked Wildcats Friday and then pitched five more scoreless frames to close the series.
It's the first weekly awards for Minnesota this season and first of Leavitt's career as the team prepares for the B1G Tournament May 11-14 at Michigan State.
