Nine Gophers Recognized by Phil Steele Publications

Five offensive players, three defensive and one specialist receive preseason honors
John Michael Schmitz was named a preseason All-American and eight other Gophers were recognized as All-Big Ten performers by Phil Steele Publications in advance of the 2022 season.
Schmitz, who is widely regarded as one of the best centers in the country, was named preseason Second Team All-American by the publication. He was also named First Team All-Big Ten by the publication.
Joining Schmitz on offense receiving all-conference recognition were running backs Mohamed Ibrahim (second team) and Trey Potts (fourth team). Offensive lineman Chuck Filiaga was placed on the third team along with receiver Dylan Wright.
The Gophers had three defensive players honored in Trill Carter, Thomas Rush and Mariano Sori-Marin. Carter, who plays defensive tackle, was slotted on the second team, while rush end Rush and linebacker Sori-Marin were third-team selections.
Long snapper Brady Weeks was also placed on the third team.
Minnesota starts the 2022 season at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 2, against New Mexico State. Season tickets – including the popular Gopher Pass – are available.
