MINNEAPOLIS - Minnesota's Natalie DenHartog added another incredible honor to her résumé Tuesday being named to the 2022 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Softball Team. The senior earned a spot on the third team and is the lone representative from the Big Ten Conference.
DenHartog started all 54 of the Golden Gophers games in center field and led the team with a .347 batting average and a .734 slugging percentage on her way to NFCA Great Lakes All-Region Second Team and All-Big Ten Conference Second Team accolades. Her 19 home runs, which ranks 19th in the nation, was one off the program's single-season record, while the senior became the Maroon & Gold's all-time home run leader in late March.
A consistent threat at the plate all year, DenHartog had at least one hit in 41 of the team's 54 games played and reached base in all but eight contests. She closed the year reaching base safely in the final 18 games and on an eight-game hitting streak, while registering a 10-game hit streak earlier in the season. She also had a .427 on-base percentage to go with a team-leading 51 runs scored and 14 stolen bases in 14 attempts.
She is currently pursuing a Master of Arts degree in organizational leadership, policy, and development after graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication studies in 2021.
A native of Hopkins, Minn., DenHartog is the 11th player in Gophers softball history to earn the prestigious honor and first since Amber Fiser in 2020. Minnesota ranks sixth of all NCAA Division I institutions with 181 all-time Academic All-America® selections, recognized for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
