MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota soccer team had three student-athletes named to the Big Ten Players to Watch List, announced by the conference office Monday. Sophia Boman, Megan Plaschko and Izzy Brown were recognized. This is Boman's second time being named to the list, but a first for Plaschko and Brown.
Boman, who was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team last fall, has started all 29 matches so far in her career. Last season, she tallied four goals and was tied for the team lead with 12 points. Boman tallied the most shots on the team (39) and notched two game-winning goals against Baylor (Aug. 19) and Ohio State (Sept. 23). The anchor in the Gophers' lineup was recently named to the 2022 United Soccer Coaches Midfielders to Watch List.
A mainstay for the Gophers between the pipes, Plaschko enters the 2022 season with 28 appearances and 26 starts under her belt. In her junior campaign, the keeper finished 38th in the NCAA and fifth in the Big Ten recording eight shutouts. In addition to her Academic All-Big Ten Award, she was named Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week on Sept. 7 and Oct. 19.
With 16 starts and 17 appearances for Minnesota, Brown enters her second season for the Gophers. During the 2021 campaign, Brown led the Maroon and Gold with six goals scored to tie the team lead with 12 points. She was one of two Minnesota players to record a multi-goal performance in 2021 against Wyoming, scoring 61 seconds into the match and adding a second in the ninth minute.
In addition, the conference released the 2022 Big Ten Coaches' Poll where Minnesota found itself sitting ninth among the 14 teams.
The Gophers' 2022 regular season begins on Aug. 18, as they travel to Texas to face Baylor. Match time is set for 7p.m. CT and can be streamed on ESPN+. Season and single match tickets are available online, click HERE for more ticketing information and HERE for the full 2022 schedule.
