Filiaga Added to Polynesian Player of the Year Watch List

MINNEAPOLIS – Minnesota sixth-year offensive lineman Chuck Filiaga has been named to the watch list for the 2022 Polynesian College Football Player of the Year Award, the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame announced Thursday.
Filiaga is in his first season at Minnesota after transferring in from the University of Michigan. A native of Aledo, Texas, he appeared in 39 career games for the Wolverines, with eight starts at left guard and three at right guard.
The watch list candidates were selected based on past performance and future potential. Additions to the list may be made as the 2022 season progresses. The finalists and winner will be chosen by the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee.
Five finalists for the 2022 Polynesian College Football Player of the Year Award will be unveiled on Dec. 1 and the winner will be announced on Dec. 15. The presentation of the Award will be held during the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Week Celebration Dinner (Jan. 21, 2023) at the Sheraton Waikiki, and they will also be recognized during the Polynesian Bowl (Jan. 20, 2023).
Past winners of the award include Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota (2014), Notre Dame offensive lineman Ronnie Stanley (2015), Colorado quarterback Sefo Liufau (2016), Washington State defensive end Hercules Mata`afa (2017), Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (2018 and 2019), Oregon offensive tackle Penei Sewell (2019), USC safety Talanoa Hufanga (2020), BYU quarterback Zach Kapono Wilson (2020) and Ohio State defensive lineman Haskell Garrett (2021).
