Hooten Earns Big Ten Event Specialist of the Week Honors

MINNEAPOLIS – University of Minnesota junior Mya Hooten was named Big Ten Event Specialist of the Week after her vault, bars and floor performances on Saturday against Penn State, the Big Ten announced Tuesday.
Hooten finished with scores of 9.900 on vault, 9.925 on bars and 9.950 on floor, winning or tying for the event title for each event on Saturday night. She's continued her dominance on floor in 2023, as she's scored no lower than 9.900 in three meets this season – hasn't scored lower than 9.900 on floor since her freshman year – while continuing her strong start to the year on bars.
The Woodbury, Minn. native adds another accolade to her resume, one that includes NCAA Championships First Team – and Second Team – All-American honors, WCGA First Team All-American honors, and multiple All-Big Ten honors.
Hooten and the Gophers travel to Iowa City this week for a matchup with the Hawkeyes on Friday, Jan. 27 at 6:30 p.m. CT.
