MINNEAPOLIS – University of Minnesota head soccer coach, Erin Chastain, has announced her third transfer portal addition to the Gophers' squad for the 2023 season in former Big Sky Goalkeeper of the Year, Camellia "Cam" Xu.
"I chose the University of Minnesota for its high level of academics, competitive Big Ten environment, but most importantly, how dedicated the coaches and team is to their sport," said Xu. "It was a surreal feeling stepping onto campus for the first time, I can't wait to be a Gopher!"
Her redshirt freshman season, Xu collected numerous awards after a phenomenal year between the posts for the Griz; including earning First Team All-Conference accolades and being named Big Sky Goalkeeper of the Year.
That same season, she set the single-season program record with 11 shutouts for Montana, led the Big Sky in shutouts, goals-against average (0.72), and save percentage (.859). Nationally, she was tied fifth for shutouts, 11th in save percentage, and 25th in goals-against average.
During her final season at Montana, Xu earned Big Sky Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors while starting all 20 matches and competing for 1,820 minutes. The keeper went 7-7-6, with eight shutouts while ranking third in the Big Sky in shutouts, goals-against average, and save percentage.
As a prep, Xu was a member of the Vancouver Whitecaps Elite REX program since 2017, and Team British Columbia since 2015. She was a Western Canada Combine Champion and All-Star in 2016. With her clubs, Xu won the British Columbia Soccer Premier League regular season in 2014, 2016, and 2017.
Xu is the daughter of Vivian Zhou and Wei Wei Hou, and has a younger sister named Melody.
