The Golden Gophers conclude their season with a win at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE - In its final match of the season, Minnesota defeated the Purdue Boilermakers, 3-1 on Sunday afternoon on the road at Folk Field.

The win boosted Minnesota's record to 7-6-4 overall and 3-5-2 in Big Ten conference play.

How it Happened
Minnesota took a 1-0 lead when Christa VanLoon scored her first goal of the season in the 35th minute, assisted by Megan Nemec.

Abi Frandsen was handed a redcard in the 18-yard box, giving the Boilermakers a chance at a penalty kick. Purdue converted the penalty for a goal and got on the board to make it a 2-1 game on Emily Mathews' 84th-minute goal.

Quotes
"Today we challenged our group with knowing this isn't where we wanted to be, but this is where we are and to go and be great," said head coach Erin Chastain. "I thought from a mentality perspective, we were. I'm proud of the group that they were mentally checked in and present for the opportunity we had even though we aren't going to the playoffs. Our goal is to be contending for the NCAA Tournament and being in the Big Ten Tournament, so that's what we will be working toward starting in the off season for next fall."

Up Next
The Golden Gophers finished the season tied for ninth along with Michigan and Northwestern with 11 points. The top eight teams make the Big Ten Tournament for a chance to win the tournament to receive a bid to the NCAA Tournament.
