Grocholski Named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

Averaged 19.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and shot 50 percent from the floor.
MINNEAPOLIS – Minnesota freshman Grace Grocholski has been honored by the Big Ten as the conference's Freshman of the Week for her performances last week against Norfolk State and Drake. The conference office also announced the Big Ten Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week on Monday.Â
The North Prairie, Wis., native dropped an average of 19 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists while shooting 50 percent from the floor. The Gophers finished 2-0 during the week against two 2023 NCAA Tournament teams in Norfolk State and Drake with Grocholski scoring a career high 26 points against the Spartans on Wednesday. Grocholski's 26-point performance was the most points in a single game by a freshman in the Big Ten this season with her career high five made threes being the sixth most made by any player in a game this season. In the double overtime victory over Drake, Grocholski played a career high 44:45, scoring 12 points, registering five assists and adding six rebounds.Â
Grocholski is the only freshman in the Big Ten this season to post single-game performances of 26 points (Norfolk St), seven assists (CSUN), is one of three with nine or more rebounds in a game (Stony Brook) and is one of two to make five or more threes in a game (Norfolk St). Among freshmen in the Big Ten, Grocholski is second in the league in points per game (11.0), first in rebounds per game (5.4) and is tied for first in assists per game (2.9). The weekly honor for Grocholski is the first of her career and is the first Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor for Minnesota since December 5, 2022 (Mara Braun).Â
