MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota continues to showcase its academic standards as Maroon & Gold student-athletes posted another strong showing on Wednesday with the release of the NCAA's newest Graduation Success Rate (GSR).
With a 95 percent graduation rate, Minnesota has now recorded the six highest GSR statistics in school history over the last six years with a school-record 96 percent mark in 2021, 94 percent in 2022, 2020 and 2019, and a 93 percent rate in 2018.
Within the Big Ten, Minnesota's GSR is tied for third with Illinois. Only Northwestern (98 percent) and Michigan (96) can boast a higher number.
This year's GSR primarily focuses on the six-year cohorts who came to the 'U' as freshman in 2016. The GSR shows the percentage of student-athletes on any given team who earn a college degree within six years of starting school. It represents data from first-time freshmen, student-athletes who entered at midyear, and student-athletes who transferred into the University of Minnesota between 2013 and 2016. It excludes student-athletes who transfer from the university in good academic standing.
Eleven Minnesota programs posted 100 percent graduation rates for the aforementioned time frame: baseball, women's basketball, women's cross country and track and field, women's golf, gymnastics, soccer, softball, women's swimming and diving, tennis, volleyball and wrestling. In all, 17 of the 19 programs on campus had grad rates at or above 90 percent.
