Oakland Earns B1G Freshman of the Week Honors

Oakland's award is the first of her career, and the first weekly award given to the Gophers this season
MINNEAPOLIS – After an impressive opening weekend, University of Minnesota freshman Jess Oakland has been tabbed as Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.
The San Jose, Calif., native was a leader offensively for the Golden Gophers in their first five games of the season.
Oakland led the team with 13 RBI on the weekend, collecting five extra base hits (eight total) and six runs, including two home runs which came against Colgate and Western Kentucky. Through five games, Oakland went 8-for-16, slugging 1.125 with a .619 on-base clip.
This is Oakland's first Big Ten Weekly award of her career, and the first for Minnesota this season.
The Maroon and Gold hit the road for the second-straight weekend to compete in the Big Ten-ACC Challenge in Chapel Hill, N.C., to compete against North Carolina and Virginia.
