It marked the first No. 14 seed since in the tournament since 2018 and first Big Ten Tournament win under second-year head coach Ben Johnson. The Gophers fell in the First Round in 2022 to Penn State as Johnson opened his Big Ten Tourney career. He broke head coach Ben Johnson's assist record in a Big Ten game, which was at eight in 2003.
• The 2023 tournament marks the first time its been held in the United Center since 2019. In 2020, 2021 and 2022, all were played in Indianapolis. In 2020 and 2022, it was held in what's now Gainbridge Fieldhouse, while in 2021 it was held in Lucas Oil Stadium, due to COVID-19 safety protocols.
