The Golden Gopher great is the fourth assistant on Erin Chastain's staff

MINNEAPOLIS - Minnesota soccer head coach Erin Chastain announced the promotion of Tarah Nupson to the coaching staff as assistant on Monday.

"We are so grateful to our athletic department for continuing to support our program and student-athletes at such a high level," said head coach Erin Chastain. "The addition of another full-time coach will have a direct, positive impact on the experience our players will have in our program. Tarah is a phenomenal coach, leader and person who has tremendous pride about Minnesota and our women's soccer program. She was a big-time player at Minnesota and we are lucky to have her on our staff."

Nupson enters her fourth season with the program after joining as Volunteer Assistant during the 2020-21 season. Her promotion marks the extension of her second stint in the Maroon and Gold as the Hugo, Minn., native shined as Minnesota's starting keeper from 2013-16.

A decorated alumni of the University of Minnesota soccer program, Nupson [Tarah Hobbs] set countless program records as the Gophers saw three NCAA Tournament appearances and won both the 2016 Big Ten Regular Season and Tournament titles in 2016.

Prior to her coaching career with Minnesota, Nupson coached the goalkeepers for both men's and women's soccer at Bethel University also serving as an assistant coach for the women's program.

While donning Maroon and Gold, Nupson holds the career record at Minnesota for shutouts (33), sits inside the top three all-time in GAA (0.90, second), keeper minutes (7,406:42, second), saves (82, third), and winning percentage (.667, third).

The Minnesota native led the Golden Gophers to 11 wins and a spot in the NCAA Tournament in 2013, including 122 saves and being named Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year, All-Big Ten First Team, and All-Big Ten Freshman Team. She also received United Soccer Coaches recognition with 2013 All-Great Lakes Region Team honors. In 2016, she received All-Big Ten Second Team accolades while leading Minnesota to the NCAA Tournament and 16 wins, marking the program's most winningest season since the 22-win, 2008 campaign.

Nupson also has professional experience on her resume, as she signed a pro contract with Ostersunds DFF of the Elitettan League in Sweden following her career at Minnesota. In 2017, Hobbs-Nupson logged 810 minutes while seeing the pitch nine times for Ostersunds DFF.

Nupson and the Gophers look forward to celebrating the 30th year of Golden Gopher soccer this fall. Season tickets are now available for purchase.
