Nations League Final Awaits Braun, Team USA, in Mongolia

9/11/2023 9:02:00 AM | Women's Basketball

Braun will compete against 13 other teams for a chance at a Nations League Gold Medal.

MINNEAPOLIS -- University of Minnesota rising sophomore Mara Braun returns to international play this Wednesday, September 13, in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, to compete in the 2023 FIBA 3x3 Nations League Final.

Braun will be joined on Team USA's U21 Nations League roster by Christina Dalce (Villanova), Morgan Maly (Creighton) and Lucy Olson (Villanova) in Mongolia. The group of four were teammates on the USA 3x3 U21 Nations League Team that finished with five-of-six stop titles at the 2023 FIBA 3x3 U21 Nations League Asia-Pacific Conference in Handan, China, in June.

The entire event, which is scheduled from September 13-15, will stream live on the FIBA3x3 Official YouTube channel. The competition will start with pool play, with Braun's USA U21 team participating in Pool C, which features Spain, France and Jordan. Pool play games for Group C are scheduled for September 13 at 2:15 a.m., 4:55 a.m. and 7:10 a.m. in the central time zone.

The 2023 Nations League final features 10 different countries on the women's side with Team USA, France, Egypt and Germany all qualifying two women's teams to the Nations League Final. Team USA's second roster, which includes players that played on the U23 Nations League circuit earlier this year, features Azana Baines (Seton Hall), Teisha Hyman (Rhode Island), Leilani Kapinus (Penn State) and Sydney Taylor (Louisville). After pool play concludes on September 14, teams will then be broken up into bracket play with eight of the 14 teams advancing to bracket play that starts on September 15.

Different from 5-on-5, 3x3 is played on a half-court with a 10-minute game clock and 12-second shot clock. Play is continuous, as teams "clear" the ball behind the 2-point line following a made basket, defensive rebound or steal. The first team to score 21 points via 1-point field goals or 2-pointers behind the arc is victorious; or if time expires then the team leading wins.
