Gopher Set for Exhibition Contest with Durham West

MINNEAPOLIS – The No. 3 Golden Gopher women's hockey team unofficially begins its 2023-24 campaign with an exhibition contest against the Durham West Junior Lightning. Saturday's matchup will take place at 2:00 p.m. CT at Ridder Arena and admission to the event will be free.

2023-24 Season Sneak Peak
Minnesota enters its 27th season of play ranked No. 3 in both the USCHO preseason poll and the USA Hockey/TheRinkLive preseason poll. The Gophers return 17 players, including 2022 Olympian Abbey Murphy, from last year's team which earned the program's eighth WCHA Final Faceoff Championship. The Maroon and Gold added four graduate transfers and five freshmen to their roster for the upcoming season.

Scouting the Junior Lightning
The Junior Lightning are a Canadian junior women's hockey team based in Ajax, Ontario that competes in the Provincial Women's Hockey League. Durham West will face off with Shattuck St. Mary's in Faribault, Minn., on Friday for the first of a three-game slate. After their matchup with the Gophers, the Lightning will stick around the Twin Cities for a meeting with the Tommies of St. Thomas on Sunday.
