Minnesota defensive back had three tackles and two interceptions against Nebraska

University of Minnesota defensive back Tyler Nubin was named the Jim Thorpe Award National Player of the Week after recording three tackles and two interceptions in a 13-10 victory against Nebraska last week.

The Jim Thorpe Award is given annually to the best defensive back in college football based on performance on the field, athletic ability and character.

Nubin's first interception thwarted a Nebraska drive and his second interception came with 58 seconds remaining in a 10-10 game and enabled Minnesota to kick a game-winning field goal with zero time left on the clock.

Nubin was also named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week and Senior Bowl Defensive Player of the Week after his performance against Nebraska.

Nubin and the Gophers return to action at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9 at Huntington Bank Stadium when they host Eastern Michigan.
