MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota women's hockey team has added Ashley Holmes as their Director of Operations, the team announced Wednesday.
"We are very excited to welcome Ashley to our program," head coach Brad Frost said. "Ashley has been involved in collegiate hockey for a number of years and brings a wealth of experience to our staff and team. We are thrilled to have her join our group."
Holmes joins the Gophers after serving as an assistant coach on the Augsburg women's hockey staff since 2014. She also worked as an assistant sports information director in the Augsburg athletic department.
"I am beyond excited to join the Gopher community," Holmes said. "The women's hockey program has a strong tradition of success, and I am honored for the opportunity to be a part of it. I look forward to working alongside the talented coaching staff and players to help the program thrive and achieve continued success."
During her time on the Auggie coaching staff, Holmes helped guide the team to five consecutive playoff appearances from 2015 to 2020 while recording a winning percentage of 69% since 2016. She was primarily responsible for leading the defense, which produced one All-American, six All-MIAC, seven All-MIAC Honorable Mention and one MIAC All-Rookie Team honorees.
Prior to her time at Augsburg, Holmes assisted in leading Alexandria High School to the Section 6A title and a fifth-place finish at the Minnesota State Class A State Tournament in 2013-14, serving as an assistant coach on the staff.
Holmes played collegiately for four years at the University of North Dakota, where she played in 138 games. She collected All-Western Collegiate Hockey Association Academic Team honors in 2011-12 as well as WCHA Scholar-Athlete Award honors in 2009-10.
Holmes earned her bachelor's degree in biology/pre-medicine, with a minor in psychology, from the University of North Dakota. She earned a master's degree in leadership from Augsburg in 2018. She currently lives in Eagan, Minn. with her wife, Laura.
