Heyer averaged 18.5 points per game during a perfect 2-0 week for the Gophers.
MINNEAPOLIS – Minnesota sophomore Mallory Heyer has been honored by the Big Ten on the conference's weekly honor roll for the first time this season after her performances in the team's wins over Michigan and Nebraska. The conference office also announced the Big Ten Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week on Monday.
Last week the Chaska, Minn., native dropped 18.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game to lead the Gophers to a road win over Michigan (82-66) and a home victory over the Nebraska Cornhuskers (62-58). Heyer shot 8-of-16 (53.3 percent) from the 3-point line and 14-of-26 (53.9 percent) from the floor in the two wins and scored 22 of her 37 points, and six of her eight triples, on the week in the second half. Heyer's six threes against Michigan make her one of three Big Ten players this season to hit six or more threes against a Big Ten opponent this season and helped set a Crisler Center record for threes made (15), breaking a record in a building that has seen 51 seasons of women's basketball in Ann Arbor. This season in conference play Heyer is the only Big Ten player to average 11.0 points, 7.8 rebounds and shoot 40 percent from three.
Heyer's performances have helped the Maroon and Gold start 13-3, the team's best 16-game start to a season since 2014-15 when the team started 14-2.
Heyer and the rest of the Gophers are back in action on January 17, at No. 14/13 Indiana (14-2, 5-1 B1G) at 7 p.m. CT.
