'U' to Host Two Future NCAA Championships

Men's basketball and wrestling coming to Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota was selected to host two upcoming NCAA Championship events in downtown Minneapolis it was announced Wednesday by the NCAA as part of a two-year selection process.
 
Working in partnership with Minnesota Sports and Events, the Golden Gophers are one of eight institutions that will host the 2027 NCAA Men's Basketball First and Second Round when it welcomes the tournament to Target Center. Minneapolis last hosted the basketball tournament in 2019 when the NCAA Final Four took place inside U.S. Bank Stadium, while Target Center was scheduled to host the regional round in 2021 before being moved to central Indiana.
 
In 2028, Minnesota will serve as the host site for the NCAA Wrestling Championship, taking place inside U.S. Bank Stadium, making it the largest venue to ever host the event. The venue was slated to host the championship in 2020 before it was cancelled due to the pandemic. The first and only other time Minnesota hosted the wrestling championship came back in 1996 at Target Center.
 
In addition, the Gophers welcome four women's college hockey teams to campus this spring as they host the 2025 NCAA Women's Frozen Four at Ridder Arena.
