Minnesota Earns First NCAA Bid Since 2018; Hosts South Dakota State on Friday

The road to the College Cup begins at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium
MINNEAPOLIS -Â After a historic season at the helm of the program, head coach Erin Chastain reached another milestone Monday afternoon as the University of Minnesota soccer team received an at-large berth to the 2024 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship, the program's first bid since 2018.Â
Minnesota (12-4-3, 6-3-2 B1G) earned the No. 6 seed in the Chapel Hill Regional and will host South Dakota State (15-4-2, 5-2-1 Summit League) on Friday, Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. CT at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium.Â
The Golden Gophers are making their 12th tournament appearance, entering the field with a 9-10-1 all-time record. In its history, the program has hosted 11 NCAA Tournament matches. The Golden Gophers' longest runs came during the 2008 and 2010 seasons, when the Maroon and Gold reached the Sweet Sixteen, including hosting Georgetown in 2008.
This past season, Chastain led Minnesota to its first undefeated home regular season since 2008. Notably, it was the first time in program history the Gophers earned two top-15 victories in a single season.
A total of 64 teams were selected to the NCAA Tournament with 31 conferences being awarded automatic qualifications, while the remaining 33 slots were filled with at-large selections to complete the bracket.
