Minnesota had six honorees
MINNEAPOLIS - Kate Childers, Elizabeth Overberg, Evelyn Calhoon, Khyah Harper, Sophia Boman, and Sophia Romine were named to the 2024 CSC Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team.
The 2024-25 Academic All-District® Women's Soccer Team, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
A sophomore from Fenton, Mich., the academic award is the first of Childers' career donning the Maroon and Gold. This season, Childers made the transition from midfield to defender, starting all 20 games and scoring two goals. Her goals came against top opponents in RV (receiving votes) UCLA and the game-winner over No. 8 Ohio State. She's competed for 1,765 minutes, missing only 35 minutes of action.
Earning her second postseason honor is senior captain Elizabeth Overberg. The Ankeny, Iowa native earned the 2024 Big Ten Sportsmanship award for the second season in a row. The CSC recognition is the third of her career. This season, Overberg started and competed in every minute for Minnesota.
Proving to be a tactful transfer this season, Evelyn Calhoon was also recognized after her hard work in the classroom and on the field. The Brown University transfer has started 18 games and has appeared in all 20 for Minnesota. Calhoon found the back of the net against Indiana and has racked up five assists.
After a fantastic season, the CSC Academic All-District award is another feather in Khyah Harper's hat. Harper was named the 2024 Big Ten Forward of the Year and to the All-Big Ten First Team. She is the first since April Bockin (2018) to earn forward of the year and is the third to earn the honor in Minnesota history. This season the Lino Lakes, Minn., native has made her mark in the 'U's' record book as she ranks third in single-season goals (17), first in game-winning goals (6) and fifth in points (40).
For the third time in her career, Sophia Boman has picked up nods to the all-district team. This season, Boman grabbed All-Big Ten First Team honors. The defensive midfielder earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week accolades this season after scoring the game-winning goal over No. 11 Iowa. Notably, the senior captain finished a brace against South Dakota State last Friday to advance Minnesota to the second round of the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship.
Graduate Sophia Romine earns the CSC nod for the second time in her career as a Gopher. This season, Romine scored four goals and has assisted four others. Against Marquette, she scored her fourth career brace. The Romeo, Mich., native has started all 20 games and competed for 1,544 minutes in the midfield.
