The senior tallied a 9.975 on floor to win her 12th event title of the season
MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota senior Mya Hooten was named Big Ten Event Specialist of the Week on Tuesday, the Big Ten announced. It's the fourth time this season and 10th time in her career she's taken home the award.
Hooten hit a 9.975 on floor on Friday at Big Fives, taking home her sixth event title on floor of the season. She also posted a 9.900 on bars and a 9.825 on vault, helping the Gophers to a third place finish (196.900) in session I. Minnesota finished the Big Ten season with a 6-3 conference record and a fourth place finish. The Gophers will compete in the night session on March 23 at the 2024 Big Ten Championships.
She currently ranks second in the nation on floor (1st in Big Ten) and 18th in vault (third in Big Ten), according to Road to Nationals. Hooten is hoping to become the second Golden Gopher ever to win a national championship and the first since 1990, when Marie Roethlisberger won the uneven bars title.
The No. 15 Gophers (10-3, 6-3 B1G) travel to Boise State (11-3, 3-0 Mountain West) for a quad meet on Friday, March 1. The meet begins at 8 p.m. CT and the Mountain West Digital Network will provide streaming coverage.
