Minneapolis Native Lu'Cye Patterson Joins Gopher Men's Basketball

University of Minnesota men's basketball head coach Ben Johnson has announced that Minneapolis native Lu'Cye Patterson will join the Golden Gopher program for the 2024-25 season. Patterson, who is transferring to Minnesota from Charlotte, has one year of eligibility remaining.
"Lu'Cye Patterson is a great addition to our program," head coach Ben Johnson said. He's a player who has gotten better every year he's played college basketball. Lu'Cye has a high basketball IQ and a good feel for the game. He plays with the right pace, has great physicality and toughness, can shoot, and makes players better with his passing. We're excited to add him to the team."
A 6-foot, 2-inch guard, Patterson was Second Team All-American Athletic Conference selection and Second Team All-District last year with Charlotte. He led the 49ers in scoring when he averaged 14.6 points, which ranked second in the AAC. Patterson started in all 31 games for Charlotte and scored double figures in 24. Along with his ppg, Patterson shot 43.6 from the field and 35 percent from beyond the arc while establishing 106 rebounds, 32 steals, 77 assists, and seven blocks. In 2022-23 with the 49ers, Patterson started in 25 games and was named an All-CUSA honorable mention. He averaged 10.2 points, 3,3 rebounds and 2.8 assists en route to a CBI title.
Patterson started his collegiate career at Missouri State, where he appeared in 57 games, started in 26 games as a sophomore, and saw action in 23 of 24 games as a true freshman. In high school, Patterson played at Brooklyn Center and finished his high school career at Minnesota Prep Academy, where he was coached by his dad, Lucas, both as an assistant at Brooklyn Center and as head coach at Minnesota Prep. In high school, Patterson scored 2,900 career points, 800 assists and 700 rebounds.
