University of Minnesota men's basketball head coach Ben Johnson has announced that Trey Edmonds (Aurora, Colo.) will join the Golden Gopher program for the 2024-25 season. Edmonds, who is transferring to Minnesota from UTSA, has one year of eligibility remaining.
I'm excited about adding Trey to our program," head coach Ben Johnson said. "Trey's a first-class young man from a great family. We got to see firsthand the type of player Trey is, his best basketball is ahead of him and that's exciting. I love his ability to make impactful plays both offensively and defensively. Trey has a passion for development and winning. He's excited about growing as a player and being part of a successful program."
Edmonds, a 6-foot, 10-inch forward/center, played one season at UTSA after a two-year stint at Utah Tech. Edmonds started in all 32 games for the Roadrunners last season, including a 12-point performance against his future Gopher team this past November. He averaged seven points and 5.8 rebounds. He also shot 55.9 from the field and 22 minutes per game. Edmonds also contributed 12 blocks, 13 steals and 11 assists last season.
Before UTSA, Edmonds played two seasons at Utah Tech. In 2022-23, he appeared in 33 games and averaged 9.2 minutes, improving his 20-game appearance and 7.1 minutes his freshman year in 2021-22. He was also named most improved after his rookie season.
