MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – University of Minnesota women's basketball head coach Dawn Plitzuweit has announced the signing of Jordan Brooks and Alexsia Rose for the 2024-25 season.

"Alexsia is a dynamic guard that not only provides our team a veteran presence, but is also a proven winner, having led her team to the American Conference Tournament Championship and the NCAA Tournament in 2023 while she was at East Carolina University" said Plitzuweit. "She is someone from the guard spot that can start our defense by applying pressure to the ball early and she also has the ability to create things offensively for herself and others with her speed and ability to both score and pass. We are elated to welcome Alexsia into our Gopher Women's Basketball family!"

"With Jordan's size and strength, we feel that we have added important depth in the post position," Plitzuweit said.  "Jordan has demonstrated the ability to score, defend and rebound and we know that she will continue to develop further as a player this upcoming season.  We are very excited to welcome Jordan to her new home in Minneapolis."

Alexsia Rose | Bloomfield, Conn. | Bloomfield High School/Watkinson | UMass/East Carolina
Rose played last season at UMass where she averaged 11.4 points per game while dishing out 67 assists and had a 1.26 assist to turnover ratio. She also proved her ability to disrupt the game defensively by forcing 26 steals in her 20 games played. Prior to her time at UMass, she played at East Carolina University where she was a key member of their 2023 American Athletic Association Conference Tournament Championship team and helped guide the Pirates to the 2023 NCAA Tournament. At the prep level Rose helped lead Bloomfield High School to the semifinals of the CIAC Girls Basketball State Championship her senior season before the remainder of the tournament was cancelled. At Bloomfield she averaged 20 points, six assists and six steals as she was named First-Team All-State. At Watkinson Rose scored over 1,000 points in three seasons and averaging over 16 points in each season.

"I am excited to win, lead effectively, and compete at the highest level," Rose said. "I am deeply grateful to Coach Plitzuweit and the coaching staff for their belief in me and for providing the opportunity to pursue my dream. Now, it's time for me to fully commit and strive for victory in the Big 10. I look forward to creating camaraderie and forming strong bonds with my teammates. The coaching staff has helped me recognize both my strengths and areas for improvement, and I am confident that with their guidance, I can significantly enhance my game and fit into the winning mindset.

Jordan Brooks | Apple Valley, Calif. | Oak Hills High School/Apple Valley High School | CSU Bakersfield/Victory Valley College (JUCO)
Brooks comes to Dinkytown after one season at Cal State Bakersfield where she competed in limited contests due to injury. Brooks, a 6-3 post, played in 16 games last season for the Roadrunners after joining the program from Victory Valley College where she led the Rams to their first conference title since 1997. In her final year at Victory Valley, Brooks averaged 21.5 points per game while scoring at an impressive 58.5 percent clip from the floor.  She also was a factor on the defensive end where she pulled down 9.7 rebounds per game and added 49 blocks and 32 steals in 22 games. At the prep level Brooks was also a standout on the volleyball court, helping her team to a 22-9 record her senior season and had a team leading 89 blocks. On the basketball court she helped her high school team win the Mojave River League championship in 2019.

"I would like to thank God for this opportunity," Brooks said. "Coach Plitzuweit and her staff have welcomed me with open arms, and I couldn't be more thankful. As a Gopher, I am looking forward to learning from everyone around me and being there for my team."
