7/8/2024 4:12:00 PM | Men's Basketball

Brennan Rigsby and Isaac Asuma are both guards on the Gopher men's basketball team. A native of De Beque. Colo., Rigsby is in his senior season after a two-year stint with Oregon where he played started in 21 games and averaged 6.1 ppg his junior campaign. Asuma, pronounced awesome-ah, hails from Cherry, Minn., and a standout three-sport athlete from Cherry High School. Get to know both the newcomer guards as they prepare for the 2024-25 campaign.

Why Minnesota?
Brennan Rigsby: During the recruiting process, I had a really good relationship with all the coaches. I think they're really good people, easy to get along with and have a vision for me. I think it's a good fit for me.
Isaac Asuma: I chose Minnesota because of the culture the program is building here. The coaches and players are great and it was something I wanted to be a part of here.

You're one of the newcomers on the team. How have you been able to get acclimated with Minnesota basketball and the team?
BR: It's pretty easy actually. Everyone is a pretty good guy and fun to be around. We're all meshing well together right now. It's been an easy transition.
IA: We all hang out and kickin' it together, either watching tv, playing video games. Obviously on the court we spend a lot of time together so we're close to each other every day.

You've been through workouts for a month now. What have you taken away from your Minnesota experience so far?
BR: We're going to play fast. We're going to be able to put up shots and be known as a gritty team.
IA: It's a big change and you're grinding throughout the summer. It's been fun though, I'm loving it.

What's one thing fans should know about your hometown?
BR: De Beque is a very small town, like 500 people. For some of the people that know this, the area is known for ranching and animals. That's what we're known for in the area.
IA: Cherry's small. The school has about 600 kids, K-12 and the town itself has a population of 300-400 people. They should also know that we have one restaurant, the Thirsty Moose. So, if you're ever in town, that's the place to go.

What are you most looking forward to this upcoming season?
BR: To play in the Barn. It's one of the most iconic places in college basketball. I'm really excited to get out there and get the fans jumpin' it.
IA: I'm looking forward to bonding with my teammates and winning some games.
