Strong Second Powers No. 3 Minnesota Past No. 10 St. Cloud State

MINNEAPOLIS – The No. 3 University of Minnesota women's hockey team skated to a 4-1 win over No. 10 St. Cloud State on Friday night at Ridder Arena. The victory pushes Minnesota to a perfect 5-0 start to the 2025-26 campaign, while the Huskies fall to 3-2 on the season.

After a scoreless first period, Josefin Bouveng broke the ice just 1:10 into the second frame. On the forecheck, Sarah Paul forced a turnover behind the St. Cloud net and quickly found Bouveng, who roofed a far-side shot to open the scoring.

The Huskies equalized the game at 12:59 of the period, capitalizing on a Gopher defensive-zone turnover.

Abbey Murphy regained the lead for Minnesota with her 10th goal of the season. After an Ava Lindsay shot was turned aside, Murphy collected the rebound near the goal line and tucked home the go-ahead tally at 15:02 of the second.

The Maroon and Gold struck again just 41 seconds later. Bouveng gathered a rebound from a Sydney Morrow shot and found Paul in the high slot, who one-timed home her second career Gopher goal to make it 3-1.

Tereza Plosova sealed the win with an empty-net goal at 18:44 of the third, securing Minnesota's fifth straight victory to open the season.

Quotable
"A really good win, St. Cloud is a very tough team that just plays the right way. They're very detailed, they're very structured, and they make you work for everything," said head coach Brad Frost. "Obviously, a huge second period there to get up a couple of goals going into the third. Overall, we're very proud of our group tonight."
