Minnesota fell in straight sets Wednesday night
MINNEAPOLIS --Â The No. 14 Minnesota volleyball team fell to the UCLA Bruins on Wednesday night in straight sets. The set scores were 25-18, 25-22, 25-22.
"That's a Bruins team that you wanted to play early in the season and not when they got organized," said head coach Keegan Cook. "We had spurts of great effort and grit. We won some long rallies and applied some service pressure. We have a lot of players that now have expanded roles and this match was a bit of a wake up call in terms of what roles will look like for the rest of the season."
Julia Hanson led Minnesota with 13 kills while Stella Swenson went for 25Â assists and six digs. McKenna Garr totaled 13Â digs to lead the defense.
The Gophers (13-3, 3-2 Big Ten) were outhit by the Bruins (9-6, 3-2 Big Ten) .230 to .089 and trailed in kills (42 to 31), digs (59 to 47), blocks (12 to 4). Minnesota had more aces (5 to 4).
