Nine Gophers Named WCHA Scholar-Athletes

MINNEAPOLIS - Nine Golden Gopher women's hockey players are among the 91 student-athletes honored as 2024-25 WCHA Scholar-Athlete Award recipients announced by the conference on Thursday.
Both Maggie Nicholson and Audrey Wethington were named a WCHA Scholar-Athlete for the fourth time in their careers. Peyton Hemp and Skylar Vetter became three-time honorees, while Allie Franco each earned her second Scholar-Athlete distinction. Nelli Laitinen, Elly Klepinger, Lauren O'Hara, and Ava Lindsay all earned the honor for the first time.
To earn recognition as a WCHA Scholar-Athlete, league-member student-athletes must have completed at least one year of residency at their present institution prior to the current academic year and must also have a grade point average of at least a 3.50 on a 4.0 scale for their previous two semesters or three quarters. Student-athletes may also qualify if their overall GPA is at least a 3.50 for all terms at their present institution.
Minnesota State leads all institutions with 19 honorees for 2024-25. Bemidji State landed 13 individuals on the list, and Ohio State had 12 honorees. St. Cloud State had 11 earn the recognition, while Minnesota, Minnesota Duluth, St. Thomas, and Wisconsin each had nine.
