MINNEAPOLIS - Head coach Brad Frost and the University of Minnesota women's hockey program have announced the addition of rising sixth-year Jamie Nelson ahead of the 2025-26 season.

"Jamie has been a strong player in the WCHA for several years," said Frost. "She is a complete 200-foot player who has produced consistently. Jamie has a passion for hockey and plays the game the right way. We are very excited that she has chosen to become a Gopher."

A 5-8 forward from Andover, Minn., Nelson will don the Maroon & Gold after a prolific career at Minnesota State University. In 124 career games, she tallied 103 points (42g-61a), the third most all-time in program history. Nelson tied her career-high with 30 points last season (8g-22a), leading the Mavericks in points, assists, and shots.

During the 2020-21 season, she became the first-ever Minnesota State skater to be named WCHA Rookie of the Year after leading her team in scoring. She was also named to the 2020-21 WCHA All-Rookie Team. Nelson is a four-time WCHA All-Academic team and Scholar Athlete selection, a two-time AHCA Krampade All-American scholar, a 2023-24 CSC Academic All-District selection, and earned WCHA Forward of the Week on Oct. 9, 2023.

Nelson holds the Minnesota State record for most points in a game (5) and most game-winning goals in a season (5 in 2023-24). Additionally, she has scored the second-most goals in a season (20 in 2023-24) and recorded the third-most assists in a season (22 in 2022-23 and 2024-25) in program history.

Prior to her collegiate career, Nelson was a tri-sport athlete at Andover High School, competing in hockey, lacrosse, and tennis. She racked up 219 points (83g-136a) in 98 games, and finished her high school career as 2020 Minnesota Class 2A State Tournament Champion.

Nelson joins six incoming freshmen in 2025-26 Gopher signing class: defender Sydney Bailey (Rogers, Minn.), forward Sienna D'Alessandro (Pointe-Claire, Quebec), forward Bella Fanale (Webster, N.Y.), goaltender Layla Hemp (Chanhassen, Minn.), forward Avery Hovland (West Fargo, N.D.), and forward Tereza Plosova (Šimonovice, Czechia).
