All Minnesota Starters Hit Double-Digit Scoring in 84-67 Win Over Nebraska

The Golden Gophers now have seven consecutive wins, marking the second-longest Big Ten winning streak in program history
MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota women's basketball team (19-6, 10-4 Big Ten) saw all five starters score at least 10 points and beat the Nebraska Cornhuskers (16-9, 5-9 Big Ten) 84-67 at home Thursday.
The Golden Gophers had five players score in double figures, led by Amaya Battle, who had 21 points and six rebounds. Mara Braun added 15 points and four assists and Sophie Hart chipped in as well with 14 points. Grace Grocholski had 12 points followed by Tori McKinney's 11.
Minnesota out-rebounded Nebraska 36-29 in Thursday's game, led by McKinney's six boards. The Maroon and Gold also grabbed 11 offensive rebounds and scored 14 second chance points.
Minnesota forced 16 Nebraska turnovers. The Gophers turned those takeaways into 15 points on the offensive end of the floor. McKinney's two steals led the way for Minnesota.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 17-11 advantage, Minnesota went on a 9-0 run with 2:39 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Braun, to increase its lead to 26-11. The Golden Gophers then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 26-13 advantage. Minnesota did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 16 of its 26 points close to the basket.
Minnesota built that first quarter lead to 34-19 before going on a 6-0 run starting at the 5:49 mark in the second period to increase its lead to 40-19. The Cornhuskers cut into that lead, but the Gophers still enjoyed a 49-30 advantage heading into halftime. Minnesota dominated in the paint, scoring 16 of its 23 points close to the basket.
After intermission, Minnesota held on to its advantage and owned a 60-52 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Minnesota played well near the basket, scoring six of its 11 points in the paint.
Minnesota kept its lead intact before going on a 9-0 run to grow the lead to 80-65 with 1:27 to go in the contest. The Gophers kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 84-67 win. Minnesota took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 14 of its 24 points in the paint.
