When Dan Egeland came to the University of Minnesota in 1986, the men’s swimming and diving team finished ninth in the Big Ten. By the end of his career here it was one of the nation’s top 10 teams.
Egeland led by example, a four-time Most Valuable Swimmer, four-time Big Ten champion, three-time All-Big Ten honoree, and three-time All-American.
In his final year of competition, he was named 1989 Big Ten Swimmer of the Year after winning four Big Ten titles at the final conference meet.
He was inducted into the U of M Aquatics Hall of Fame in 1995.
