A guard/forward for the Gophers, Dick Garmaker earned All-Big Ten first team honors in both 1954 and 1955, and All-America honors in 1955.
The Hibbing, MN native was the first U of M player to score more than 400 points in a season, in 1954, and the next year became the first to score more than 500. He finished his Gopher career with 1,008 points, averaging 22.9 points per game.
Garmaker was a first-round draft choice of the NBA Minneapolis Lakers in 1955 and played there for five seasons, finishing his career with the New York Knicks the next. Over six NBA seasons he averaged 13.3 points per game and played in four All-Star Games.
