Jennifer McElmury became the first Gopher soccer player to earn first-team All-American status, after leading her team to an 18-3-2 record in 1997. She was the team’s co-captain that year.

McElmury was twice named Big Ten Conference Player of the Year, and she led her team to consecutive Big Ten titles and NCAA Tournament appearances, in 1995, 1996 and 1997. She set three of the Gophers’ top 10 records for points in a season, and ranked near the top in career points, goals and assists.

Her No. 27 was retired by the Minnesota soccer program in 2004, and the second-team Academic All-American received the Big Ten Conference Medal of Honor for academic and athletic achievement in 1997. She became a teacher and coach in the Stillwater girls soccer program.
