Boxing, 1950-52
HOF Class of 1997

Robbinsdale High School named Neil Ofsthun one of its greatest high school athletes, a reputation he backed up at the University of Minnesota.

As a Gopher, Ofsthun won NCAA boxing championships in 1951 and 1952 as a 125-pounder. The three-time letterwinner was 1952 captain of the U of M boxing team that competed at the U.S. Olympic trials.

Ofsthun later became an assistant coach with the Minnesota boxing team. After his college career, he coached wrestling and boxing, and taught graduate level parks and recreation courses. He then worked in recreation in Maryland, Japan, and the state of Washington.
