Clayton Tonnemaker

Captain of Bernie Bierman’s powerhouse 1949 Golden Gopher team, Ogilvie, MN native Clayton Tonnemaker earned All-America honors as a center and linebacker.
Tonnemaker also served as co-captain of the College All-Star team, and in the East-West Shrine All-Star Game. In 1949, the Minneapolis Star named him the greatest center in Minnesota football history.
Selected first by the Green Bay Packers in the NFL draft, fourth overall, he played just one season for Green Bay before being called to military duty, serving as an Army first lieutenant in the Korean War.
Tonnemaker rejoined the Packers on his return, and played for them until 1954, when he retired to launch a successful business career. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1950.
