Diane Wallner Schoeneman won 13 Big Ten titles as a Gopher swimmer, setting conference records in winning four of those crowns.

She was also an All-American six times, twice in individual events and four times as a relay team member. Her individual-event honors was the first for a female swimmer at the U of M. She was also the first to qualify for Olympic Trials. Wallner Schoeneman held school records in eight events at graduation, including a 50-yard freestyle time (:22.97) that was the nation’s fastest. The women’s team compiled a 30-10 dual meet record in her five Gopher seasons, and finished each year in the top three at the Big Ten Championships.

Wallner Schoeneman was named Big Ten Swimmer of the Year and Minnesota Senior Athlete of the Year in 1986, and was inducted into the Minnesota Aquatics Hall of Fame in 1992. She became a family practice doctor.
