TEAM / SERIES NOTES
• This afternoon’s game was the fourth meeting in the all-time series with Maryland, and the Terrapins now hold a 3-1-0 lead (Minnesota is 1-1 at Maryland Stadium). The Gophers defeated the Terps here, 31-10, on Oct. 15, 2016.
• The Gophers are 1-8 in their past nine Big Ten openers, with the lone win coming at Michigan during the 2014 season.
• P.J. Fleck’s second-year mark at Minnesota is 8-8 and sixth-year career mark stands at 38-30.
• Minnesota won the coin toss and deferred. Maryland received the kickoff and defended the east end zone.
• The Gophers, who entered the game ranked ninth nationally (first in the B1G) in possession time, held the ball for 33:29 to Maryland’s 26:31.
• The Gophers were 2-for-4 on Red Zone possessions, with one passing touchdown and a field goal. So far this season, the Gophers are 13-for-17 in the Red Zone with 10 touchdowns.
• Minnesota was whistled for just one 15-yard penalty in the game, while the Terps had 10 penalties for 118 yards.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
• Zack Annexstad completed 14 of 32 passes for 169 yards and a touchdown, but threw his first two career interceptions. For the season, Annexstad is 58-of-111 for 706 yards and five TDs with the two interceptions.
• Mohamed Ibrahim rushed 26 times for 95 yards, returning to the lineup for the first time since the season-opener. For the season, Ibrahim has 35 carries for 196 yards.
• Rashod Bateman had a team-high seven catches for 68 yards and his first collegiate touchdown. Bateman is the first Minnesota WR other than Tyler Johnson to catch a TD since Drew Wolitarsky had a 13-yarder at Wisconsin on Nov. 26, 2016.
• Chris Autman-Bell had four catches for 70 yards. The reception total tied his career-best, while the yardage total eclipsed his previous high of 43 yards in the season-opener versus New Mexico State.
• Bryce Williams finished with seven carries for 24 yards.
• Ko Kieft was targeted twice, finishing with one catch for a career-high 19 yards.
• Jacob Huff led the Gophers with eight tackles (four solo).
• Carter Coughlin recorded his team-high fourth sack of the season.
• Emmit Carpenter made field goal attempts from 33 and 41 yards and was 1-of-1 on PATs. The seven points increased his career total to 214, which ranks seventh on Minnesota’s all-time scoring list. Among kickers, he ranks fifth.
• Carpenter now has 43 career field goals, which is fourth all-time at Minnesota.
• Jacob Herbers punted five times for an average of 47.0 yards per punt, with three boots of 50+ yards (long of 52) and downing fourpunts inside the 20 yard line.
