Career Services has outlined a 4 year plan for student-athletes to track progress in their career journey. 

Freshman Year - Get Started
  • Create a profile in GoldPASS/Handshake
  • Create a Resume
  • Career Research Activity in OUE
  • Required Career Event: Pro Day

Sophomore Year - Explore Options
  • Create a LinkedIn Profile 
  • Explore Career Paths (choose at least one of the following:)
    • Online research
    • Attend career panels
    • Participate in site visits
    • Informational interviews
  • Volunteer or gain leadership experience (pre-internship experience)
  • Required Career Event(s): Pro Day, W.I.L.L. (women student-athletes) 

Junior Year - Get Focused 
  • Update and tailor resume to field of interest
  • Learn and practice interview skills
  • Complete an internship in field of interest 
  • Required Career Event(s): Pro Day, W.I.L.L. (women student-athletes) 

Senior Year - Go Get It 
  • Search for jobs using multiple strategies (start in September)
    • Career fairs
    • Informational interviews
    • Apply online
    • On-campus employer info sessions
  • Mock interview
  • Gain additional related experience
    • Micro-internships
    • Class projects
    • Case competitions
    • Internships
    • Volunteer (in a related role)
  • Required Career Event(s): Pro Day, W.I.L.L. (women student-athletes) 
Students are encouraged to take advantage of these items as they fit into their schedule
  • Explore graduate/professional school and start application process (junior year)
  • Career workshop or event hosted by your college
  • UMN Job & Internship Fair (February) or a career fair hosted by your college
