Before you start searching for an internship ask yourself these questions:
1. What type of internship are you looking for?
- Know what you want before you start searching. What skills do you most want to develop? What type of organization or work environment would you like exposure to?
- You might need to research potential careers before you can answer these questions. Review the resources in the Career Exploration section and meet with a career counselor for assistance.
- Start early. Keep the recruiting cycle in mind - over 70% of companies hire summer interns in September and October, that’s 8 months before the actual internship start date!
- Talk to your academic advisor to see if your major has internship requirements and make sure you understand what type of experience will satisfy those requirements.
