2016 • SOPHOMORE SEASON: Made his Minnesota and collegiate debut against Indiana State and also played on special teams against Iowa • saw action at Maryland on special teams and at receiver • played against Rutgers and at Illinois • Academic All-Big Ten.

2015: Redshirted.

HIGH SCHOOL: Attended De La Salle High School, where the Spartans went 14-0 and won the 2014 state title • Spartans were NorCal champions and state runners-up in 2013 • named to the 2014 All-East Bay Athletic League Second Team as a wide receiver • caught 27 passes for 486 yards and two touchdowns as a senior • also made seven tackles and returned two interceptions 83 yards • missed most of 2013 due to injury, tallying four receptions for 93 yards in two games • coached by Justin Alumbaugh • also lettered in track.

PERSONAL: Born Sept. 30, 1996 • son of Barry and Constance Mayer • has two brothers (Aaron and Todd) and one sister (Ally) • father, Barry, played running back for the Gophers from 1967-70 and was drafted by the Green Bay Packers, but did not play professionally because of injuries • brother, Todd, played football at St. Mary's in California, while brother, Aaron, was a member of the Anaheim Angels organization in MLB • cousin, Adam Tafralis, played quarterback at San Jose State and played professionally in the CFL.
