Gerrit Chernoff was named general manager of the Minnesota football staff in January 2017. He was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director / General Manager in January 2021.
Chernoff oversees all off-field aspects of the Minnesota football program.
Chernoff came to Minnesota after spending one season at Western Michigan as the director of player personnel and director of recruiting. At Western Michigan, he oversaw all recruiting operations and the day-to-day workings of the football office. Chernoff planned, set up and ran all official and unofficial visits. He also served as the direct liaison with the compliance department and managed social media accounts. Chernoff also directed videos to help promote the team, which included the creation of a virtual reality stadium environment to assist recruiting.
Prior to Western Michigan, Chernoff was the director of player personnel for five years at Iowa State. In that role he assisted with day-to-day recruiting operations, managed the team recruiting database, coordinated official and unofficial visits, created recruitment materials and managed student assistants. In 2014, Chernoff was honored as one of the top five “Directors of Operations of the Year” by Tom Lemming.
Chernoff also spent one season with the Chicago Rush of the Arena Football League.
Chernoff is a 2008 Michigan graduate and was head manager of the Wolverine men's basketball program for two seasons.
