Before Northern Iowa, Fruechte spent time at Wisconsin-La Crosse as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2018. The Eagles averaged 32.1 points and 384.8 yards of offense per game and finished second in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) in both scoring and passing offense. He was hired in March 2018 to coach the wide receivers, but then transitioned that fall to coach quarterbacks and serve as the offensive coordinator.

From 2015-17, Fruechte played two seasons for the Minnesota Vikings. In 2016, he also had a six-game stint as a wide receiver for the Detroit Lions before returning to the Vikings.

He played receiver at Minnesota from 2012-2014. In his career, he had 50 receptions for 72 yards and three touchdowns and was also a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree.

Fruechte and his wife, Kenzie, have two sons (Ike and Zeke) and one daughter (Jovi).
