Troy Thompson
Troy Thompson joined the University of Minnesota athletic performance staff as an Assistant Director of Athletic Performance in January 2023. He works directly with the football team.

Thompson came to Minnesota from Stanford University, where he spent four months as an Assistant Football Sports Performance Coach. Prior to Stanford University, Thompson oversaw the implementation of the strength and conditioning program for all 14 varsity sports programs as Director of Strength and Conditioning at Pace University,
2015-2022.

At Pace, Thompson helped develop the first Conference Player of the Year, first Conference Offensive Player of the Year, first Conference Offensive Lineman of the Year and first Conference Defensive Lineman of the Year in school history. He also helped develop an Elite Eight Women’s Basketball team (2022) and an NCAA Tournament Men’s Basketball team (2022).

Prior to his experience at Pace, Thompson served as Assistant Football Sports Performance Coach at Old Dominion University (2014-15) and Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at Wofford College (2013-14); Thompson interned at Denison University (2012, 2013) and at his alma mater, Capital University (2009-2012). 

Thompson holds certifications thru the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified), the National Strength and Conditioning Association (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Certified Performance and Sport Scientist), and is a Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach
with the NSCA.

Thompson earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science from Capital University in 2012, where he played football and was a three-year letter winner on the offensive line. He earned his master's degree from Pace University in 2018. 

He is a native of Pickerington, Ohio, and graduated from Pickerington High School Central.

He and his wife, Elena, reside in Minneapolis.
