Jackson Purcell joined the Gopher men's basketball staff as a graduate assistant after a three-year stint as a Gopher player in August of 2024. Purcell played for Eastview High School and Minnesota Select before joining the Gopher men's basketball team as a walkon in the 2021-22 season. After suffering a season-ending injury his freshman year, Purcell made his collegiate debut on Nov. 11, 2022 against St. Francis. As a redshirt sophomore, he earned a scholarship in 2023-24. Purcell was a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and earned a degree from the University of Minnesota and Carlson School of Management in May of 2022. He is also working towards a master's degree from Carlson as well. 

As a senior in high school, Purcell averaged 12.8 points per games for the Lighting and scored in double figures eight of 11 games despite suffering an injury. He was a member of the South Suburban League championship team both senior and junior years and an all-conference selection in 2020-21. Purcell was named to the 2021 Mr. Basketball Watch List his senior year. As a junior, Purcell helped Eastview to a 24-4 record and a South Suburban Conference championship en route to the Class 4A Section 3 finals and all-conference honorable mention honors.
