Ryan Dotson joined the Health & Performance staff at the University of Minnesota as the Assistant Athletic Trainer for Men’s Basketball in 2020. This is Dotson’s second time at the University of Minnesota, the first coming from 2009-11 as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer.
 
Dotson hails from Lansing, Mich., and attended Purdue University for his undergraduate education graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Athletic Training with a minor in Psychology in 2009.  He became a certified athletic trainer following graduation and began his master’s degree program in the fall of 2009 at the University of Minnesota.  Dotson primarily covered the Rowing team and provided back-up medical care for Women’s Basketball, Volleyball and Men’s Basketball.  He received a Masters of Education degree in Applied Kinesiology with an emphasis in Sport Management in May 2011. 
 
Upon finishing his education, Dotson worked as the athletic trainer for Men’s and Women’s Basketball at the University of Indianapolis from 2011 – 2014.  From 2014 – 2018, he was an Assistant Athletic Trainer at Mississippi State University working primarily with Men’s Basketball and Men’s Golf and served as Director of the Sstudent Athletic Training Internship Program. 
 
Dotson worked as a Certified Athletic Trainer/Rehabilitation Specialist at NW Sport Rehab in Seattle, Wash., from 2018 through September 2020. 
 
Dotson is a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) and a licensed athletic trainer (LAT) in the state of Minnesota, a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, the Minnesota Athletics Trainers Association and has completed additional coursework in Selective Functional Movement Assessment (Level 1), Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS), Dry Needling and is a National Academy of Sports Medicine Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES).
